Furniture assembly and small repairs

A shelf waiting to be put together, a picture you’ve been meaning to hang for weeks, a curtain with no rail or a wardrobe door that won’t close properly: small jobs that sometimes just need two hands and a toolbox. On Mutioo you describe the job, neighbours in your area offer to help and you choose the person you feel comfortable with.

Examples of this kind of favour

  • Putting together a shelf, a chest of drawers or a bed from the instructions.
  • Hanging pictures, mirrors or a curtain rail.
  • Changing a hard-to-reach light bulb or the batteries in a smoke alarm.
  • Tightening a hinge or adjusting a wardrobe door.
  • Taking apart an old piece of furniture to take it to the recycling point.

How to ask

Add to the favour a photo of the furniture or the wall, the model if you know it and the tools you have at home. If you’d like the neighbour to bring their own, say so too: it can make a big difference from one offer to the next.

  1. Post the favour

Pick the category, say what you need, where and when, and whether you’re offering money or a favour in return.

  2. Choose your neighbour

Neighbours in your area offer to help. You look at their profile and reviews, talk in the chat and choose.

  3. Done, and then it’s paid

The money waits, held safely, until you confirm the favour is done; if you don’t reply within 7 days, it’s released automatically. If you open an issue, it isn’t released.

What to agree on

  • Which tools and materials each of you provides: screws, wall plugs, drill, ladder.
  • What to do if the job turns out bigger than expected: stop and talk before carrying on.
  • That nobody touches gas, water or electrical installations: that’s work for a professional.
  • Timing, roughly how long it will take and who takes away the packaging and leftovers.

What to offer

A rough example: putting together a simple piece of furniture might come to between €10 and €20, depending on size and time; hanging a couple of pictures, less. Each neighbour decides what to ask.

This is only a rough example to get the conversation started: each neighbour decides, it’s not a Mutioo rate or a market price, and you two set it. Mutioo Protection is paid by whoever asks: at most 10% of the price (€0.79 on small favours), and less on favours over €25. You see the exact amount before paying. Whoever helps pays no fee: they receive 100% of the price.

Mutioo is an intermediary: it puts neighbours in touch, but it doesn’t do the favours or vouch for anyone’s conduct. The agreement is between whoever asks and whoever helps.

Trust

If the job means a neighbour coming into your home or you leaving them your keys, mark the favour as sensitive: only neighbours with a verified identity will be able to offer and, when it’s done, you’ll give them a PIN in person to close it.

Frequently asked questions

Can a neighbour fix my tap or the electrics?

That’s not what Mutioo is for: water, gas and electrical installations are a job for a professional. Mutioo is for small jobs between private individuals, and its terms remind users that it isn’t meant for providing professional services on a regular basis.

What if something gets broken?

Mutioo is an intermediary: it doesn’t vouch for anyone’s conduct or cover damage during a favour, so agree beforehand what happens if something goes wrong. If you’re not happy with the result, you can open an issue from the favour and, while it’s reviewed, the money isn’t handed over.

Do I need to have the tools?

You decide when you post: you can provide them or ask the neighbour to bring their own, and you make it clear in the chat before choosing.
