Watering plants and garden help

Two weeks’ holiday is a long time for a fern. Watering the plants on the balcony, moving a pot into the sun or helping prune a rose bush are small favours that a neighbour next door can do in a few minutes. On Mutioo you describe what your plants need and neighbours in your area offer to help.

Examples of this kind of favour

  • Watering the plants in your flat or on the balcony while you’re away.
  • Moving heavy pots or setting up a planter.
  • Pruning a hedge, a rose bush or a small tree in a courtyard.
  • Helping with an urban vegetable patch or with composting.
  • Repotting and feeding houseplants.

How to ask

Make a short list of the plants, how much water each needs and how often, and note where they are and how to get into the home. A photo of each corner avoids doubts. Say from when until when you need the favour.

  1. Post the favour

Pick the category, say what you need, where and when, and whether you’re offering money or a favour in return.

  2. Choose your neighbour

Neighbours in your area offer to help. You look at their profile and reviews, talk in the chat and choose.

  3. Done, and then it’s paid

The money waits, held safely, until you confirm the favour is done; if you don’t reply within 7 days, it’s released automatically. If you open an issue, it isn’t released.

What to agree on

  • How the neighbour gets into the home: keys, concierge or you being there.
  • How much water, feed and light each plant needs, ideally in writing and with photos.
  • How often they’ll call by and how they’ll let you know they have: a photo in the chat.
  • What to do if a plant gets sick or something on the balcony gets damaged.

What to offer

A rough example: calling by a couple of times a week during a holiday might come to between €5 and €8, depending on how many times they need to call by. Each neighbour decides what to ask.

This is only a rough example to get the conversation started: each neighbour decides, it’s not a Mutioo rate or a market price, and you two set it. Mutioo Protection is paid by whoever asks: at most 10% of the price (€0.79 on small favours), and less on favours over €25. You see the exact amount before paying. Whoever helps pays no fee: they receive 100% of the price.

Mutioo is an intermediary: it puts neighbours in touch, but it doesn’t do the favours or vouch for anyone’s conduct. The agreement is between whoever asks and whoever helps.

Trust

If the favour means entering your home or leaving your keys, mark it as sensitive: only neighbours with a verified identity will be able to offer and, when it’s done, you’ll give them a PIN in person. Because that PIN is given in person, it’s worth agreeing when you’ll meet to close the favour, for example when you’re back from your trip.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to leave my keys?

Only if it’s needed. If so, mark the favour as sensitive: only neighbours with a verified identity will be able to offer. If you’d rather not leave your keys, you can ask for a favour where you’re present.

What if a plant dies?

Plants are delicate and nobody can guarantee anything. Leave the instructions in writing and, if something doesn’t go well, talk about it in the chat; you can also open an issue from the favour.

Is it a gardening service?

No: it’s help between neighbours with small tasks. For a large garden or risky pruning work, a professional is the right choice.
