Favour swaps: no money involved
Not every favour is paid for with money. On Mutioo you can ask for help and return it with another: you put my shelf together, I give you a Spanish lesson; I water your plants, you help me move a piece of furniture. It’s a swap between neighbours, with no money changing hands and no hours counted: it isn’t a time bank.

- Spanish lessons in exchange for help with a move.
- Looking after the plants for two weeks in exchange for walking the dog for a weekend.
- Help with a phone in exchange for going along to a medical appointment.
- A photo session in exchange for a hand with the vegetable patch.
How to ask
When you post, switch on the swap: you can offer payment, a swap or both. Whoever wants to help suggests between one and five concrete things they would do in return, and you choose the one that suits you; then you agree the date for the return. If you’re not sure what you’d like to give or receive in return, describe it in the favour in your own words and let whoever offers suggest options.

Pick the category, say what you need, where and when, and whether you’re offering money or a favour in return.
Choose your neighbour
Neighbours in your area offer to help. You look at their profile and reviews, talk in the chat and choose.
Done, and then it’s paid
The money waits, held safely, until you confirm the favour is done; if you don’t reply within 7 days, it’s released automatically. If you open an issue, it isn’t released.
What to agree on
- Exactly what is being returned, in enough detail for both sides to understand it the same way.
- The date of the return: one side proposes it and the other confirms; without confirmation, there’s no reminder.
- That the swap is between private individuals: no hours are counted and no balances build up.
- How it will be checked that it’s done: both sides upload at least 2 photos or videos of what they’ve done.
Mutioo is an intermediary: it puts neighbours in touch, but it doesn’t do the favours or vouch for anyone’s conduct. The agreement is between whoever asks and whoever helps.
Frequently asked questions
Is anything charged if we agree a swap?
If you choose a swap offer, the favour isn’t charged: no money moves between you.
Is it the same as a time bank?
No. On Mutioo there are no hours as currency and no balances: each favour is agreed with a specific person and returned with another specific favour.
What if one side doesn’t follow through?
Both sides confirm when it’s done and, if something isn’t right, you can tell us what happened from the favour. Agree the date and the details before you start.
Can I ask for a favour with money or a swap at the same time?
Yes. When you post you can switch on both ways of saying thanks, and whoever offers chooses which one to propose.
